Saturday, October 16, 2010 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped their eighth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss to visiting Emmanuel College, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in the back end of a twin bill with the men's soccer team. The Mustangs fall to 3-9-1 overall and drop to 1-8-0 in conference play while the Saints improve to 7-9-0, 5-5-0 in the GNAC.
The visitors would net the first goal of the contest in the opening three minutes of the contest on a cross in the middle of the box by sophomore Brittany Ridge (Portland, ME/Portland). Freshman Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, MA/Wahconah Regional) collected the cross and deposited her shot into the left corner of the net for the immediate 1-0 advantage.
Not even 11 minutes later, Sullivan converted her second goal of the game on a cross that was deflected to the left side of the box on a miscued clear attempt by the Mustangs. Sullivan fired a shot into the right corner of the net for the 2-0 lead early in the game.
Neither team could convert a score for the rest of the first half sending the game into halftime with the visitors holding a 2-0 advantage.
Almost the entire second half of action was spent on the Mustangs side of the field with all the offense dominated by the Saints. Neither team could muster a goal with the hosts only registering one shot for the entire game handing Emmanuel the 2-0 GNAC victory.
Mount Ida netminder senior Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) notched seven saves in the contest while Emmanuel keeper sophomore Jessica D'Ottavio (Pawling, NY/Pawling) only faced one Mustang shot with minimal action with no saves.
The Mustangs will host GNAC foe Norwich University on Wednesday starting at 3:30 p.m.
