MUSTANGS KNOT 0-0 DOUBLE OT TIE AGAINST VISITING LYNX

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team hosted non-conference Lesley University Sunday afternoon in the opening game of today's double header with the men knotting a 0-0 double overtime tie.  The Mustangs hold at 1-0-1 while the Lynx stay at 2-0-1 with neither team yet to play a conference game.

Mount Ida struggled in the first half reeling off only one shot on goal for the entire stanza while the visitors pounded the offensive side of the field with 15 shots total.  The Lynx had two legit chances to net a goal, both off corner kicks, but was unable to convert.

Mustang goaltender senior Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) kept her team in the hunt with seven saves in the first half.  Although the Lynx took over offensively the teams went into halftime knotted at a 0-0 tie.

Mount Ida, who struggled with offense the entire first half, had their first decent opportunity to score on a through ball from senior Michelle Alessi (Salem, MA/Bishop Fenwick) to sophomore Heather Harrington (Bedford, NH/Manchester West).  Harrington's shot would miss wide left and was cleared by the defense for a missed chance.

Senior Lindsay Lincoln (Clarksbury, MA/Drury) had a one-on-one in from of the net from just inside the 18 yard box with the goaltender out of position but missed wide left with 25 minutes remaining in the second half.

The visitors continued to pound the net but Begins was dazzling in net making some very difficult saves keeping her team in it.

The Lynx had one final shot with under a minute to go in regulation off a well placed cross to the head of freshman Jackee Sanchez (Fair Oaks Ranch, CA/Golden Valley).  The header sailed high and nicked off the cross bar sending the game into overtime at 0-0.

The Lynx had a couple of chances to end the game in the first overtime but neither team was able to convert sending the game into a final extra period.  Another quiet second overtime would ultimately lead to a 0-0 non-conference tie.

Begins kept her team in the game for the entire 110 minutes played with 14 saves facing 36 total shots.  Lesley sophomore goaltender Corrine Dasti (Eastham, MA/Nauset) only faced four shots on the day with one save.

The Mustangs will travel to non-conference Elms College this coming Thursday starting at 7:00 pm. in Chicopee, Massachusetts.
