WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTCHES FIRST GNAC WIN OVER RIVIER

WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTCHES FIRST GNAC WIN OVER RIVIER

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team notched their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory this past Saturday over hosting Rivier College by a score of 2-0 in Nashua, New Hampshire.  The Mustangs improve to 3-8-2, 1-7-1 in GNAC play and capture their first win since October 1st beating non-conference Becker College 2-1.

Rivier seemed to play in the Mustangs end for the entire game, but couldn't find the back of the net, no matter how close they got to the goal.  Rivier had 12 corner kicks, opposed to Mount Ida's 1, but didn't get a single shot off on any corners.

Mustang junior Lindsay Lincoln (Clarksburg, MA/Drury) was credited for both goals.  The first coming just past the 12 minute mark when she received a pass just across midfield with defender Emily Ingram (Litchfield, NH) right by her side.  Ingram was able to intercept to poke the ball away, but poked it closer toward the goal as she stumbled, giving Lincoln a one on one against goalkeeper Britt Puleo (Hudson, NH).

Lincoln's second goal came in the second half as she took a deep pass into the goal box and fired a shot point blank at Puleo, who had come out to intercept.  Puleo stopped the shot, which then deflected off a Rivier defender and rolled 30 ft. into the empty net.

Mount Ida goal keeper Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) had four saves in the win, while Puleo saved three shots for the Raiders.

The Mustangs will host Johnson & Wales University this coming Monday afternoon starting at 3:45 p.m.
