MUSTANGS ROMP BECKER IN 6-0 BLOWOUT

MUSTANGS ROMP BECKER IN 6-0 BLOWOUT

Senior Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) netted four goals and tallied two assists against non-conference Becker College leading the Mount Ida women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory in Newton, MA this Thursday.  The Mustangs improve to 3-5-1 overall and remain 1-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.  The Hawks drop to 2-8-0 on the season, 1-2-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

The entire contest was dominated by Mount Ida, and it started quickly, within the opening five minutes of the first half.  McLear lined up goal number one off a tipped pass from freshman Samantha Spiezo (Burriville, RI/Burriville) that was pounded into the back of the net for the early 1-0 advantage.

It wouldn't stop there, 15 minutes later, sophomore Lindsay Lincoln (Clarksburg, MA/Drury) scored her first goal of the year fed by McLear.   The Mustangs stretched their lead to 2-0 and unfortunately for the Hawks, it would not stop there.

Seven minutes later, McLear hammered in her second goal from inside the box off a pass from junior Katie Lorenco (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester) taking the 3-0 lead with 19 ticks to go in the half.  McLear notched an unassisted goal, her third of the game, on a botched clear by the visitors taking the 4-0 advantage into the break.

The second half was much like the first with the Mustangs dictating the entire offensive attack.  Senior Kimberly Faber (Fruito, CO/Fruito) netted her first goal in a Mount Ida uniform on a cross from McLear taking the 5-0 lead in the opening minutes of the second stanza.

McLear would eventually knock in her fourth and final goal of the contest on a redirected pass by the Hawks that she poked into the back of the net.  It would all end there with the Mustangs tallying their third victory of the season winning 6-0.

Mount Ida overwhelmed Becker, outshooting the visitors 35-4, including a 50% shots-on -goal percentage for the Mustangs while McLear tallied a career best 10 points (four goals, two assists) in the contest.  Goaltender Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) denied two balls for Mount Ida while junior Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA/Quaboag Regional) stopped 11 for the Hawks.

The Mustangs will head into homecoming weekend this Sunday and host NECC powerhouse Lesley University starting at 12:00 p.m. in a doubleheader with the men's soccer team.
