NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College women's lacrosse senior attack Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and junior attack Amanda Bowen (Randolph, Vt.) have put their names into the Mustang's record books by becoming the 2nd and 3rd members to join the prestigious 100-Goal Club.
The pair join alumni Jen Thompson (Lexington Park, Md.), who scored 147 goals over the course of two seasons (2010-11).
Coming into the 2014 campaign, Bowen and Sheppard both had already reached the 100-point plateau but had their eyes set on the century mark in goals scored.
Bowen recorded her 100th goal by netting the game-winner on March 6th with under nine seconds left in the second overtime at Little East Conference (LEC) opponent UMass Dartmouth, to give Mount Ida a dramatic 17-16 victory.
Sheppard's 100th marker found the back of the net last Saturday in a 10-7 road loss at Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales.
Bowen amassed a total of 49 goals and 11 assists for a total of 60 points in a strong freshman season in 2012. She nearly matched that production in her sophomore year, with 46 goals and 11 assists, and now just seven games into her junior year, she has potted 10 goals and handed out eight helpers.
With 105 goals and 30 assists totaling 135 points in less than three years of play, Bowen is in strong position to put her name at the top of the Mount Ida record books.
In Sheppard's freshman campaign, she was able to tally eight goals and six assists, good for a total of 14 points. It wasn't until Sheppard's sophomore year in 2012 when she began scoring in masses, totaling 53 goals, 8 assists and 61 points. In 2013, Sheppard scored 26 goals and 12 assists for 38 points, and already has 23 goals and three assists through seven games of her senior season. A 2012 1st Team All-Conference GNAC player, Sheppard has recorded 110 goals and 29 assists, good for a total of 139 career points.
Congratulations to Molly and Amanda on this tremendous milestone in Mount Ida College women's lacrosse history.
