MUSTANGS FALL TO LASERS IN GNAC ACTION

Friday, March 29, 2013 (Newton, Massachusetts)- The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Lasell College this afternoon by a score of 21-7. With the conference victory, Lasell improves to an overall record of (7-2, 4-0 GNAC) while the Mustangs fall to (3-6, 1-3 GNAC).

After falling behind at the 29:22 mark, the Mustangs would score four straight goals to take the early lead in the contest. Sophomore Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) found senior Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) for the first score of the contest for the Mustangs at the 26:02 mark. Bowen would add a goal of her own twelve minutes later to give the visitors the 2-1 lead. Two minutes later, Briana Barker (Westerly, RI/Westerly) would add to the lead on an assist from Milot, putting the Mustangs up two early. Freshman Maile Melvin (Hebron, CT/RHAM) tallied her first score of the day two and half minutes on another assist from Milot to help the Mustangs increase the lead to 4-1.

After falling behind early by three goals, Lasell would score seven out the next eight goals, while taking an 8-5 lead at the half.

The hosts would open the second half on a tear scoring the first six goals of the half and taking a commanding 14-5 lead at the 22:40 mark. Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA/Nashoba Regional) would tally a game high seven goals and one assist for the Lasers, while Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, CT/Forman School) finished with five goals and one assist and freshman Taylor Dooley (Barnstable, MA/Barnstable) had a career day while posting five points on four goals and one assist.

Mount Ida would tally the next two goals on scores by Milot and freshman Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North), cutting the lead to 14-7. With fifteen minutes remaining, the Lasers would score seven straight goals to increase the lead to 21-7 with 3:04 left in the game.

The last three minutes of the contest would go scoreless as the Lasers ran out the clock and earned the GNAC victory by a final score of 21-7, remaining undefeated in conference play.

Senior keeper Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) would see all sixty minutes in net for the Mustangs while making six saves on twenty-seven shots. Sammy Long (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) made ten saves on seventeen shots while playing the entire game in goal for the Lasers.

The Mustangs will get back to work on Wednesday, April 3rd at 6:30 p.m. while hosting the Blue Jays of St. Joseph College (CT). Lasell will host Emerson College on Wednesday as well, with game time slated for 4:30 p.m.
