MEN'S AND WOMEN'S LAX ADD TWO WINS SATURDAY

Saturday, March 23, 2013 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Behind a four goal performance from senior defender Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton), the Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team captured their second victory of the season over visiting non-league Framingham State University this past Saturday on Alumni Field by a tight score of 12-8.  The Mustangs improve to 2-5 for the season and are still searching for their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bid of 2013.  The Rams fall to an overall record of 0-2 and have yet to compete in a Massachusetts Small College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contest.

Although trailing 7-6 at the midway point, the hosts held Framingham State to only one score throughout the final stanza scoring six of their own to snatch the win in a hard fought battle.  Mount Ida led in almost all statistical categories including shots (45-15), ground balls (23-12) and draw controls (15-8).

Paired with a solid offensive performance from Milot, the Mustangs saw two goals apiece from sophomore's Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) and Kaitlyn Affhauser (Cheshire, MA/Hoosac) with Bowen also adding a dish.  Junior Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) and freshmen Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North), Briana Baker (Westerly, RI/Westerly) and Maile Melvin (Hebron, CT/RHAM) all added one score each.  Senior net minder Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) saw the entire contest between the pipes with not much action notching six saves.

For the Rams, senior attacker Heather Masse (Billerica, MA/Shawsheen Tech.) did the bulk of the shooting for her squad with a game-high five tallies while fellow senior Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT/Rutland) added two goals.  Freshman goalkeeper Alysha Cericola (Waltham, MA/Waltham) denied 18 of the Mustangs 31 shots on net.

Mount Ida women' s lacrosse will host league member Anna Maria College this Wednesday with game time slated for 3:30 p.m.

The Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team captured their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season over visiting Becker College winning 12-5 Saturday on Alumni Field behind a six goals performance from freshman attacker Phil Pichel (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton).  The Mustangs improve to 3-5 for the year with a perfect league standing sitting at 2-0.  The Hawks drop their first conference bid of the season slumping to an even 1-1 with a 2-5 2013 slate.

Although the scoreboard was very close with the hosts holding a slight edge (3-2) over the visitors, Mount Ida notched nine goals in the second half holding the Hawks just three goals throughout the second stanza to capture the 12-5 win.

Along with an impressive offensive run from Pichel, sophomore attacker Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA/Danvers) added a game high five assists along with two tallies to aid in the victory.  Senior midfielder's Nick Yacuzzi (Worcester, MA/St. John's-Shrewsbury) and Jake Davis (Chester, NH/Pinkerton Academy) added two scores while sophomore's Chaz Strom (North Grafton, MA/Blackstone Valley) and Zach Rosen (East Greenwich, RI/St. Andrew's School) combined for three assists.  Between the pipes for the hosts was junior Craig Bray (New Canaan, CT/Vermont Academy) seeing all 60 minutes with 13 saves.

The Hawks saw two goals each from senior attacker Jeff Petersen (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) and junior midfielder John DeAngelis (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott).  Senior goaltender Michael Munoz (Avon, CT/Avon) stopped 12 Mustang shots for the contest respectively.
