Saturday, March 16, 2013 (Nashua, New Hampshire) - The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team dropped their third straight defeat and their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss of the young 2013 season against hosting Rivier University Saturday afternoon falling 15-8 in Nashua, New Hampshire.
The Mustangs, who saw a game-high six goals from sophomore attacker Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT /Randolph Union), slump to an overall record of 1-4 remaining winless in the GNAC standings (0-1). Rivier improves a perfect 3-0 for the year sitting atop the league standings at 1-0.
Bowen was the goal leader for Mount Ida as she recorded 6 goals on nine shots. She was also 6-for-12 inside the faceoff circle. Alexandra Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) and Maile Melvin (Hebron, CT/RHAM) each added solo goals while Milot had two assists. Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) made nine saves for the Mustangs in the loss.
Freshman Danielle Moran (San Diego, CA) made 13 saves to lead the Raiders while junior midfielder Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA) highlighted the day as she was able to connect on four of her five shots on net while adding an assist for five total points in the contest. Senior Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME) added 3 tallies of her own while junior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) registered two goals and two assists in the win. Amaral also collected 10 ground balls to lead the team and classmate Vanessa Viola (Nashua, NH) was 9-for-15 inside the faceoff circle.
Rivier held a slim 6-5 lead as the halftime horn sounded and the offense exploded for 9 goals in the second frame. Mount Ida's Amanda Bowen snuck one past Moran with 25:38 left to play to get the Mustangs within a goal at 8-7. That's when six different Raiders rattled off a goal apiece to give Rivier a seven goal lead with 10 minutes to play.
Mount Ida will travel to Fitchburg State University on March 19th with game time slated for 7:00 p.m.
