WOMEN'S LAX FALLS TO HOSTING BISON 14-2 SATURDAY

Saturday, March 31, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse program dropped their second straight non-league bid Saturday afternoon at Nichols College falling 14-2 at Vendetti Field.  The Mustangs falls to an overall record of 2-7 holding at 2-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. 

Junior Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) and rookie Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) each provided one goal for the Mustangs as freshmen Lexie Greenhalgh (Marietta, NY/Morcellus) and Kaitlin Affhauser (Cheshire, MA/Hoosac) recorded one assist apiece. Senior Jeileen Rivera (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) amassed a game-high eight ground balls and caused five turnovers. Greenalgh recorded four ground balls as junior Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) grabbed three.

Nichols senior Krista Jean Forand (Plymouth, MA) scored five goals and first-year Stephanie Mathewson (Simsbury, CT) netted her first collegiate tally in the game.   Forand also picked up a pair of ground balls and two draw controls while First-year Erica Antonison (Albertson, NY) pitched in with two goals, five ground balls and caused three turnovers. Senior Emily Yourie (Ellington, CT) and rookie Sam MacMillan (Bridgewater, MA) each scored twice as MacMillan came up with four ground balls and a pair of helpers. Senior Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, MA) corralled seven draws while registering a goal and two assists for the Bison. Sophomore Julie Monroe (Whitman, MA) caused five turnovers and picked up six ground balls while Mathewson collected six ground balls.

Mount Ida lit up the scoreboard first as Bowen sent home a pass from Greenhalgh with 23:49 showing on the scoreboard. Nichols went on to score the next seven goals of the half for an 8-1 advantage. Forand began the Bison scoring at 9:35 on one of her four free position goals of the afternoon.

Antonison continued the Bison scoring spree with a marker 2:28 into the second stanza. Mount Ida found the back of the net with just over 10 minutes remaining as Milot snuck the ball past the Nichols netminder. Nearly five minutes went by before Shaughnessy netted the final goal of the day on a free position shot.

Musty turned away 10 shots in the defeat for Mount Ida while Bison senior Danielle Mott (Cranston, RI) stopped seven shots in her second win of the season.
