SHEPPARD TALLIES GAME-HIGH EIGHT GOALS, MUSTANGS WIN

Tuesday, March 27, 2012 (New Haven, Connecticut) - Behind eight goals from sophomore attacker Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport), the Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team under the direction of fourth year Head Coach Peri Steere captured their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over hosting St. Joseph College (CT) with a 19-8 bludgeoning Tuesday evening in New Haven, Connecticut.  With the win the Mustangs improve to an overall record of 2-5 with a league slate of 2-2.

Along with Sheppard, Mount Ida was led by freshman attacker Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) adding three goals and one dish.  Freshman attacker Kaitlin Affhauser (Cheshire, CT/Hoosac) would also tally three goals and one assists while junior Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) and sophomore Kayla Bravo (East Providence, RI/East Providence) notched two goals each with Milot adding an assist.  Junior newcomer Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA/Concord Carlisle) also notched a score respectively.

Saint Joseph got off to a strong start. Gambino scored her three goals and Leitao her two as the Blue Jays were even with two minutes left in the half, 5-5.

Mount Ida closed with a rally to lead 8-5 at halftime, but the Blue Jays had one more push. Foster's goal to open the second half and Zeugner's first of the season closed the Blue Jays' deficit to 8-7, 1:44 into the half.

But Sheppard scored two goals to ignite a 10-goal run that determined the final outcome.

Junior netminder Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) made seven saves for the Mustangs.

Mount Ida will host non-league Salem State University Thursday afternoon with game time slated for 4:00 p.m.
