SHEPPARD/BOWEN NOTCH SIX EACH, MUSTANGS WIN

Tuesday, March 20, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Mount Ida College women's lacrosse sophomore Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) and freshman Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) recorded a game-high six goals each to pace the Mustangs to a 19-11 win for their first victory of the season capturing a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bid in the process over visiting Rivier College Tuesday afternoon.  

Fourth year Head Coach Peri Steere and her squad controlled the ladder part of the second half to solidify their victory.  Mount Ida improves to an overall record of 1-3 and start league play flawless at 1-0 while the season opener for the visitors was not kind falling to a yearly slate of 0-1 as well as in GNAC action.

The Mustangs owned the second half after a deadlock at 6-6 heading into the midway point.  13 scores in the second stanza wrapped up the win for Steere's team starting strong in conference play. 

Sheppard would also add an assist for the hosts while freshman attacker Kaitlyn Affhauser (Cheshire, MA/Hoosac) notched three scores and a dish.  Junior Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) chipped in two goals with one assist while sophomore Kayla Bravo (East Providence, RI/East Providence) and junior Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA/Concord Carlisle) tallied a goal and an assist each.   Freshman Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) recorded a dish respectively.

For the visiting Raiders sophomore Hanna Wyatt (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) added a team-high three goals and one helper.  Sophomore's Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI/East Providence),   Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro) and Vanessa Viola (Nashua, NH/Nashua South) notched two scores a piece.

The Mustangs will travel to non-league foe Framingham State University Thursday evening with game time slated for 4:00 p.m.
