BOWEN NETS FOUR SCORES, MUSTANGS FALL TO LIONS 15-8

Saturday, March 17, 2012 (Boston, Massachusetts) - Mount Ida College women's lacrosse freshman attacker Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) tallied four goals in a tough 15-8 loss to hosting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Emerson College Saturday afternoon to open league play for 2012. 

Trailing by a goal at the half (7-6), the Mustangs were only able to convert two scores to the hosts eight in the final stanza leading to their demise. 

The Mustangs remain winless with an overall record of 0-3 and fall to 0-1 in the conference standings.

After falling behind to open the half down 2-0, Mount Ida came roaring back knotting the score at 2-2 on two unassisted goals from Bowen with less than 22 minutes to go in the first half.  The Lions countered with three more scores through the next 10 minutes of play to go ahead 5-2. 

Bowen added another for her third of the game on a dish from sophomore Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) cutting the Emerson advantage to a deuce trailing 5-3 with eight minutes to go before the break. 

The Lions tacked on two more scores through the next two and a half minutes of play towards the last leg of the first half going ahead 7-3. 

The Mustangs came surging back through the final two minutes of the stanza starting with Bowen's final score of the contest from Sheppard again.  Sheppard would go on to tally her first of two during the contest on an unassisted bid followed by another unassisted goal coming from sophomore attacker Christina Gedick (Acton-Boxboro, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) pulling within one of the hosts at 7-6 at the break.

The second half was not friendly to the Mustangs watching Emerson notch third goals through the first nine minutes of the final frame to go ahead 10-6.

Mount Ida freshman attacker Kaitlin Affhauser (Cheshire, MA/Housac) converted her first score of the 2012 season on a dish from newbie junior midfielder Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA/Concord Carlisle) making it 10-7 in favor of the hosts.

The visitors went on to score the next five goals finishing the stretch with three minutes to go in the contest up 15-7.  Sheppard added the final score of the game on an unassisted bid to finish off the 15-8 loss.

Mount Ida junior netminder Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) denied eight Lion shots for the day. 

The Mustangs will host their first home game of the 2012 season against visiting Rivier College Tuesday afternoon with game time slated for 4:00 p.m.
