BOWEN NETS SIX SCORES, MUSTANGS FALL 12-10 LATE

Thursday, March 8, 2012 (Dartmouth, Massachusetts) - Leading 5-4 at halftime, the Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team surrendered eight second stanza scores to hosting non-league foe UMASS-Dartmouth ultimately leading to a 12-10 loss Thursday evening in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs fall to an overall record of 0-2 and have yet to compete in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) this season. 

Mount Ida jumped out to a 4-1 lead through the first 20 minutes of play eventually surrendering three goals late in the action to the Corsairs cutting the visiting advantage to 5-4 at the midway point. 

Although the Mustangs went ahead 8-5 with 20 minutes to go in the game, UMD scored seven out of the last nine goals netted in the contest eventually falling 12-10 in dramatic fashion.

Mount Ida was led by a game-high six goal performance from freshman attacker Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union) along with a dish.  Sophomore Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) chipped in three scores while sophomore Kayla Bravo (East Providence, RI/East Providence) added one goal.  Junior midfielder Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) tallied an assist respectively. 

The Corsairs saw the game winning goal come from the stick of freshman attacker Shelby Friedland (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) with 5:41 remaining to break the 10-10 tie.  UMD junior attacker Brittney Enos (East Falmouth, MA/East Falmouth) sealed the Mustangs' fate making it 12-10 with 4:23 left leading to the visitor's ultimate demise. 

Enos finished with three goals and one assists while sophomore midfielder Taylor Corsano (Bourne, MA/Bourne) notched three scores and two dishes. 

Mount Ida netminder Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) denied four Corsair shots while UMD goaltender Angelina Donovan (Medford, MA/Medford) stopped four as well.

The Mustangs will visit GNAC foe Emerson College a week from Saturday for their first league bid of the season with game-time slated for 1:00 p.m.
