THOMPSON SCORES FOUR, WOMEN'S LAX FALLS 9-8 TO SHARKS

The Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 9-8 loss in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Wednesday afternoon at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs, who did not play with senior captain Danielle Chuba (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional), fall for the second game in a row to an overall record of 6-7, slumping to 2-3 in GNAC play sliding to the sixth spot in the standings.

Mount Ida scored first on a shot from junior Jen Thompson (Easton, MD/Easton) in the first minute of the game. The Sharks would respond with five unanswered goals before freshman Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) would score again for the Mustangs with four seconds left in the first half.

In the second half, Mount Ida came out strong scoring three fast goals to tie the game 5-5 with 28 minutes to play. The scoring alternated for the rest of the game, switching leads twice until junior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, ME) would make the game winning goal off a free position shot with 31 seconds left. Following that shot, the Sharks would gain control off the final draw and hold on for the win.

The Mustangs were led by Thompson who had four goals on the night.  Sophomore Emily Kaley (Manchester, Maine) led the Sharks with three goals.

Mount Ida freshman goalkeeper Katherine Chousa (Norwood, MA/Norwood) made seven stops.  Shark sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, CT) picked up the win for the Sharks making 12 saves.

Mount Ida will return home to host St. Joseph's College (CT) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. on senior day.
