To open the 2011 season, the Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-5 non-conference loss to hosting Curry College Tuesday afternoon in Milton, Massachusetts. The loss drops the Mustangs to 0-1 overall and have yet to play a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.
Mount Ida senior attacker Jennifer Thompson (Easton, MD/Easton) scored three goals to lead the Mustangs while senior attacker Becky Tisbert (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille Union) and freshman attacker Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, NY/Bellport) netted one goal apiece. Senior midfielder Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) also contributed to the Mustang attack with one assist.
Attackers Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.), Ana Bottary (Hull, MA), and Lauren Glavin (Billerica, Mass.) led the Colonels with 15, six, and five points respectively. Hansbury found the back of the net six times while dishing out nine assists, Bottary scored five times and added one assist, while Glavin contributed five goals. Freshman Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, NY) rounded out the scoring with two goals and one assist.
Senior attacker Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA), senior midfielder Kelly Champagne (Wolfeboro, NH, and freshman Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, VT) and Caity Tobyne (Hamilton-Wenham, MA) all added one assist.
Curry, which held a 19-6 advantage in draw controls also, scooped up 27 groundballs to Mount Ida's 11.
Mount Ida had five first half goals, but were scoreless in the second. Three different players scored for the Mustangs.
Curry played two different goalies in net, senior goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.), finished with ten saves and five goals against in 50:43 minutes, and senior Kate Noe (Greenwich, CT) saved two shots allowing no goals in 9:17 minutes. In net for Mount Ida was freshman Katherine Chousa (Norwood, MA/Norwood) who made twelve saves for the loss.
The Mustangs will travel to non-conference Husson University on Thursday, March 17th with game time slated for 2:00 p.m.
