Jesse Joins 1,000 Point Club in Finale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Needing ten points in her final game to reach the 1,000 point plateau, senior Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) scored 24 points as the Mount Ida College women's basketball team closed out their 2016-17 season with an 81-66 defeat at Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Jesse scored eight points in the first quarter and then became the fifth member of the Mount Ida women's basketball 1,000 point club just four seconds into the second quarter when she nailed a three-pointer to open the period.

The Mustangs (7-18, 3-13 GNAC) suffered a slow start, as Albertus Magnus outscored them 23-10 in the opening quarter, but Mount Ida trailed by just ten points at halftime and after three quarters, and were within eight with 5:30 to play in the game when Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) hit a layup afte Jesse had nailed a three-pointer.

Alkinburg had seven points, and Jessica Cyr (Ashford, Conn.) assisted on both of those baskets and had a steal in between, and also fed Jesse for her record-setting three-pointer.

Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.), who led the Falcons with 24 points of her own, gave the Falcons a ten point lead again, and Kiki Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) scored the next six points as Albertus put the game away down the stretch.

Bolden had a game-high 17 rebounds, along with three blocks, two steals and two assists.

Epps had 16 points off of the bench, a key part of a Falcons pine that outscored the Mount Ida reserves 27-16. Albertus also had a 48-26 edge in points in the paint.

Mustang senior Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) scored seven points and had six assists, while Brittany Crosby (Riverside, R.I.) poured in 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Janique Cofield (San Diego, Calif.) and Maryssa Dwyer (Quincy, Mass.) also scored in their final games as Mustangs.

Albertus got 15 points from Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and 13 points, four assists and four steals out of Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.).

The Falcons (14-11, 9-7 GNAC) have earned the #4 seed in the GNAC South Division and will travel to North #1 Saint Joseph's Maine on Tuesday, February 21st for a quarterfinal matchup.
