Mustangs Clipped by Bluejays in Road GNAC Tilt

W. HARTFORD, Conn. -- Mount Ida College held a one-point lead after one quarter of play, but were outscored by a combined eight points over the middle two frames and fell 66-60 to University of Saint Joseph on Monday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball action at O'Connell Center.

Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) poured in a team-high 15 points for Mount Ida, who got quality scoring out of their entire starting lineup, but just four points from their bench. Brittany Crosby (Riverside, R.I.) led all players with ten rebounds to go with eight points as Mount Ida held a 50-42 edge on the glass.

Saint Joseph scored 16 points off of 14 Mount Ida turnovers and was led by 20 points from Kayla Guest (Newington, Conn.) and 18 points out of Carlee Putnam (Niantic, Conn.), who was 2-4 from long range and 8-11 at the free throw line. The pair also grabbed four rebounds apiece, while Elisha Pertillar (Windsor, Conn.) added seven rebounds and nine points and Charlotte Eberhardt (Thomaston, Conn.) led the team with nine caroms off the bench.

Mount Ida (3-11, 0-6 GNAC) led 14-13 after the first period, but Saint Joseph shot 60% in the third quarter en route to taking a 47-40 lead to the final frame, in which they held off the Mustangs to improve to 7-7 on the year (2-4 GNAC).

Trish Liotta (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) added 13 points and Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) scored 12 points and had three steals for the Mustangs, with each guard hitting 2-6 from behind the thre-point line. Forward Imani Bumpus (W. Hartford, Conn.) netted eight points and she, Liotta, Jesse and Muir each had two assists apiece.

Freshman Alisa Benson (Middletown, R.I.) picked up seven rebounds off the Mount Ida pine and scored the only field goal of the game for the Mustang reserves.

The Bluejays look to win their third straight GNAC game on Thursday night when they head to Standish, Maine for a 5:30 PM meeting with the Saint Joseph's College Monks.

Looking to pick up their first GNAC win of the year, Mount Ida hosts Albertus Magnus on Thursday at 6:00 PM.
