STANDISH, Maine – The Mount Ida College women's basketball team (5-16, 3-6 GNAC) fell to the hosting Monks of Saint Joseph's College (ME) (17-4, 7-0) on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 93-63 at the Harold Alfond Center in Standish, Maine.

Despite the setback, junior center and GNAC leading rebounder Angie Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) tied Adrienne Xenos (Brockton, Mass.) for the most career rebounds with 871. Martinez, in just her third season in a green and white uniform registered yet another double double with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Also, in today's game, Martinez tied another Mustang women's basketball record with her 368th career offensive rebound which ties the mark previously set by Danielle Ring (Leicester, Mass.).

THE LEAD

With the help of an 18-3 game-opening run, Saint Joseph's held the lead for the duration with a 52-25 advantage heading into halftime. The Monks led by a game-high 35 points after freshman Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) converted a layup with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The Monks' depth played a major factor in the lopsided outcome, as all 17 players logged at least five minutes – and none more than 18 - with 16 individuals finding the scoring ledger. The St. Joe's bench accounted for 51 points, an impressive effort led by sophomore guard Emily Quirion (Augusta, Maine), who poured in 11 points with three assists in 15 minutes on the floor.

LEADERS – MOUNT IDA

• Junior guard Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) paced the Mustangs with 13 points
• Junior center Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) registered a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds with a pair of blocks
• Junior forward Brittany Crosby (Riverside, R.I.) came off the bench to net 10 points off a 5-8 effort from the field
• Sophomore guard Trish Liotta (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points and four assists

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S

• Senior center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) led all scorers with 16 points off an 8-9 shooting performance with four rebounds
• Junior guard Emily Kehoe (Perkinsville, Vt.) earned her third start of the season and produced 10 points
• Marks scored nine points with seven boards while making five of six free throw attempts
• Freshman forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) contributed eight points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds
• Freshman guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) chipped in with seven points and three assists
• Sophomore forward Norma Waggett (Saugus, Mass.) added six points, eight caroms, and two steals
• Freshman guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) scored six points with three rebounds and three steals

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's shot 46.6% (34-73) from the floor, 25% (4-16) from three-point range, and 60% (21-35) from the free throw line while Mount Ida posted efforts of 40% (24-60), 35.3% (6-17), and 56.3% (9-16) from the field, beyond the arc, and the charity stripe, respectively.

The Monks maintained advantages in rebounds (50-37), assists (19-17), turnovers (11-23), points off turnovers (21-7), second chance points (18-4), points in the paint (40-20), fast break points (6-0), and bench points (51-23) in the victory.

NOTEWORTHY

For the Monks, today's point total is the most the team has scored since the Royal Blue defeated Maine-Fort Kent by a 95-54 margin on January 7th, 2012…prior to this afternoon, Saint Joseph's had not reached the 90-point plateau in GNAC play, or 102 conference contests since 2007…St. Joe's has netted 90 or more points on eight occasions since 2000 and 96 times in the 40-year history of the women's basketball program.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 8-1 in the history of the series with Mount Ida College and has now defeated the Mustangs in eight consecutive meetings dating back to the 2007-08 campaign. The Monks' point tally and today's winning margin both count as the highest marks in the history of the matchup between the conference counterparts.
