Mustangs Drop First GNAC Contest of The Season to Raiders

NASHUA, N.H. -- In their second game back on the hardwood after the New Year, the Mount Ida College women's basketball team dropped their first Great Northeast Athletic (GNAC) tilt of the season to the hosting Raiders of Rivier University by a final score of 70-54.

With the loss, Mount Ida drops to 2-11 (0-1 GNAC) while Rivier improves to .500 on the season at 5-5 (1-0 GNAC).

Mount Ida was paced by GNAC leading rebounder Angie Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) who notched yet another double-double effort for the Mustangs by totalling 16 points and pulling down a game high 14 rebounds. Teammate and guard Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) provided some offensive help with 11 points and four rebounds while junior Brittany Crosby (Riverside, R.I.) and sophomore Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) added eight points apiece while Muir grabbed seven rebounds to go along with five steals in the losing effort.

Rivier freshman Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) led all scorers with 18 total points on 7-for-20 shooting from the floor and junior Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) added 14 points. Junior Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, N.H.) earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds with senior Hayley Barnard (Bedford, N.H.) contributing 10 points off the bench. Junior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) had a solid night with eight points and eight rebounds.

Mount Ida will be back in GNAC action after a week off on january 12th when they are entertained by Johnson and Wales with tip off set for 7:00 PM.

Next up for the Raiders will be a non-conference, home matchup against Trinity College with game time scheduled for 7:00 PM on Thursday evening, January 5th.
