ACOSTA POURS IN GAME-HIGH 26 POINTS, MUSTANGS WIN 72-55

Thursday, December 6, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's basketball team got back to their winning ways Thursday evening capturing a 72-55 victory over hosting non-conference Gordon College.  The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 4-4 and have yet to venture into Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Pacing the victory for the Mustangs was senior guard Evebonee Acosta (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley) with 26 points, eight boards, and four assists while junior Leslie Campbell (Quincy, MA/Quincy) chipped in 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals.  Junior Abbey Fedigan (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) and sophomore Jenn Rafuse (Brockton, MA/Brockton) each chipped in nine points each while sophomore guard Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, NY/Maple Hill) notched seven points and four assists respectively.

The first half proved to be a tight race as the lead was traded six times with neither team able to establish a margin greater than four. With just under five minutes remaining the Scots took a 25-22 lead after a three from Abby Biggar (Beverly, MA), but the Mustangs buckled down on defense and converted from the line to go into the locker room with a two-point advantage, 32-30.

Though score remained a tight 43-40 in favor of Mount Ida at the 14-minute mark, the game from then on belonged to the Mustangs, who closed out the half with a 29-15 run to secure the 17-point win.

The Scots' effort was led by Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, OH) with 23 points and 12 rebounds, Skylar Bareford (Stonington, CT) with 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists, and Clancey Adams (Simsbury, CT) with nine points.
