The Mount Ida College women's basketball fell for the fourth time in a row dropping an 84-76 non-conference loss to hosting Curry College Monday night in Milton, Massachusetts. The Mustangs drop to an overall record of 5-12 for the year.
The Colonels opened the game with a 15-1 run that began and ended with three-pointers by sophomore forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA). Curry maintained its lead throughout the remainder of the half and went into intermission with a 40-28 advantage.
The Mustangs were led by junior guards Shannon Wood (Gorham, ME) and Jeileen Rivera (Springfield, MA), who poured in 25 and 14 points, respectively. Freshman forward Alicia Ward (Walpole, MA) led the Mustangs on the glass with 10 rebounds.
Mount Ida mounted a second-half comeback, and ultimately cut the Colonels' advantage to just six (76-70) with 0:56 remaining in regulation after a jumper by junior forward Rachelle Gilbert (Corunna, IN). But Curry went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe over the final 36 seconds to ice the game.
Senior forward Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME) recorded a double-double with team highs in points (17) and rebounds (10). Cousins also tied a school record for most blocked shots in a game with eight. Senior guard Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, MA) and Rafferty had 13 points apiece, while senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) added 10.
