Mustang freshman Hannah Blum (Raleigh, NC/Broughton) tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mount Ida College women's basketball team to this third victory so far this season over Bay Path College winning 64-40 this past Tuesday nightin non-conference action. The Mustangs improve to 3-5 overall on the year while the Wildcats drop to 2-4.
Two other players for Mount Ida tallied double figures on the night. Leading the way was starting junior forward Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) with 15 points going 6-for-15 from the field. Defensively, Blum led under the boards as well as snagging the game-high six steals. Junior guard Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) pitched in 12 points with seven caroms as well as dishing six assists.
Rounding out the Mustang starting five was junior forward Ashley Boyd (Hanson, MA//Whitman-Hanson) who added seven points, eleven rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Coming off the bench, freshman guard Jeileen Rivera (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) chipped in eight points and five steals.
The Mustangs took advantage of poor ball handling scoring 25 of their points off of the Wildcats 37 turnovers. Mount Ida had 23 turnovers with Bay Path notching 14 steals. Rebounding was about even with the Wildcats having 41 to the Mustangs 43 for the game.
The maroon and white junior forward Kathleen Rodrigue (W. Stewartstown, N.H.) pitched in eight points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Christina Calabrese (Hamilton, N.J.) totaled six rebounds, four points and three assist in her 36 minutes of play. Senior guard Sarah Wright (Canterbury, N.H.) rounded off the scoring with four points.
The Mustangs will head into the weekend and host Wentworth for their second home game of the season starting at 1:00 p.m.
