Mustangs Nipped by Emerson in GNAC Road Finale

BOSTON, Mass. -- In their final road game of the 2014-15 season, Mount Ida College suffered a four-set defeat to the Emerson Lions in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's volleyball action on Tuesday night.

The Lions took the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-14, but Mount Ida fought back and won a tough third set 28-26. Trying to keep their match alive, the Mustangs fell 25-19 in the fourth set to drop to 5-19 on the year (0-11 GNAC).

Senior Mat Pils (Monroe, Conn.) had nine kills and made just two errors to hit .389 for the match for Mount Ida, while adding four digs, one service ace and a block assist.

James Ames (W. Hartford, Conn.) had a team-high 13 kills and Michael McCullough (Southborough, Mass.) piled up 37 assists, and each of them fired a pair of aces.

Sophomore Peter Griffenkranz (Deer Park, N.Y.) put up 12 kills and nine digs, second only to Andrew Shaw's (Anaheim, Calif.) 11 digs.

The Lions were paced by Nick Rusk, who had 16 kills, ten digs and two service aces, and Connor Burton, who had eleven kills along with two blocks.

Brendan McGonigle ran the Lions offense effectively, collecting 40 assists along the way.

Mount Ida returns home for a Thursday night showdown with Wentworth at 6:00 pm in Mount Ida Athletic Center.

Emerson improves to 12-10 (4-7 GNAC) and will be at Lasell on April 2nd at 7:00 pm.
