ALBANY, N.Y. – Mount Ida College collected their first clean sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Yeshiva University in non-conference men's volleyball action at Kahl Gym.
Junior James Ames (W. Hartford, Conn.) led the Mustangs with 19 kills as they earned the victory with wins of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-18.
Ames was aided by classmates Dennis Miranda (Havana, Cuba), who piled up 13 kills, and Jimmy Wessel (DeKalb, Ill.), who set up 36 points and had seven digs defensively.
Eliakim Gartenberg (San Jose, Calif.) paced the Maccabees with five kills and Jonathan Goldstein () recorded 11 assists in the loss, as Yeshiva drops to 1-8 on the year.
The Mustangs got a balanced effort from their attack, which included six kills from senior Kalyn Smithson (Vilseck, Germany) and four kills apiece from Michael McCullough (Southborough, Mass.) and Corey Brindamour (Barrington, R.I.).
Ames and Miranda each served a pair of aces, of which the Mustangs racked up seven in the game, and sophomore Andrew Shaw (Anaheim, Calif.) led all players with 13 digs.
The Mustangs (3-10) had the second game of what was supposed to be a tri-match with host Sage cancelled due to injuries causing Sage to have an incomplete roster.
Mount Ida returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Wednesday night when it travels to Nashua, N.H. for a 7:00 pm date with nationally ranked Rivier University.
