SPENCER HASTINGS GARNERS ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTION

SPENCER HASTINGS GARNERS ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTION

Monday, April 15, 2013 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Mount Ida senior Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creek HS), a member of the Mustangs men's volleyball team, was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference second team.

The captain outside hitter had an individual career best season for the Mustangs, registering 329 kills and averaging 3.89 kills per set to lead all Mount Ida players.  Hastings had a season high 32 kills in a 5 set victory over Albertus Magnus College on April 4th to help Mount Ida capture 7th place in the GNAC standings, an improvement from last season’s finish.

Spencer's ability to lead and take over a match has been instrumental in the building process for a young Mount Ida squad.  Although he was willing to do whatever it took to help the team win, Spencer also knew that his individual success was the key to the team success.  Along with his offense, Hastings was also a primary passer in serve receive and a key part in the defense. He was second on the team in digs (155) and blocks (35) and first in service aces (18).

In his 4 year career, Spencer was named to the GNAC All-Conference third team 3 times and this is his first appearance on the second team.  He is listed in the top 10 in numerous categories in the Mustangs record books, including finishing second all-time with 1106 career kills and third overall with 577 digs.
