Thursday, February 28, 2013 (Nashua, New Hampshire) - The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped their sixth straight match at the hands of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Rivier College Thursday evening in Nashua, New Hampshire falling 3-1 by scores of 16-25, 25-22, 11-25 and 20-25. Mustang senior outside hitter and Captain Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) recorded a game-high 14 kills on 38 attempts with eight digs and three service aces.
Mount Ida falls to an overall record of 4-11 still searching for their first league victory (0-5) while the Raiders remain atop the conference standings with a perfect 4-0 record going 9-7 for the year thus far.
Paired with Hastings, freshman opposite hitter Jadon Jahnsen Tuiolosega (Hemet, CA/West Valley) had his best offensive outing of the year with seven kills and five digs while junior outside hitter Nick Mellilo (North Haven, CT/North Haven) notched five kills and a solo block. Freshman setter Brady Rodriguez (Longwood, FL/Bishop Moore) dished out 28 assists running the Mustang offense.
For the hosts, who are ranked 10th in the country thus far this season continuing their long reign as a regional powerhouse, sophomore outside hitter Chris Markuson (Cupertino, CA/St. Francis) led Rivier with 10 kills on 16 chances with no errors compiling an impressive .625 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Mike Hadder (Yucaipa, CA/Yucaipa) ran the show for the Raiders with a game-high 40 assists. Sophomore outside hitter's Cameron Phegley-Walker (Los Angeles, CA/Bishop Mora Salesian) and Brandon Tutino (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) chipped in five kills each with only three errors between them.
Mount Ida men's volleyball will have the weekend off and travel to GNAC foe and neighboring rival Lasell College next Tuesday, March 5, 2013 with opening serve coming at 7:00 p.m.
