Thursday, March 22, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team was ousted by visiting Johnson & Wales University Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action bowing 3-0 to the Wildcats by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-16 for their tenth straight overall loss and their sixth consecutive league bid.
The Mustangs fall to an overall record of 1-15 remaining winless in conference competition at 0-6 while the hosts improve to 11-8 for the season and 5-4 in league play.
The Mustangs were led by junior hitter and captain Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) with a team-high 11 kills adding five digs and three services aces. Senior setter/hitter Franklin McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) chipped in a team-high 15 assists and one solo block while junior libero Ricky Oliveira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) notched five digs respectively.
Visiting Johnson & Wales University was led offensively by sophomore hitter Shawn Kennedy (West Barnstable/West Barnstable) tallying a game-high 12 kills. Junior Bryan Tejada (Los Angeles, CA/Fairfax) dished out 14 assists while sophomore Alex Viera (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) received five digs.
Mount Ida will travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on host Albertus Magnus College in league play Tuesday night with game time slated for 7:00 p.m. while the Wildcats travel to non-conference Endicott College Saturday for tournament action.
