MEN'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO AT M.I.T. TOURNAMENT

Saturday, March 3, 2012 (Boston, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped another two matches over the weekend at the annual Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) tournament starting with a 3-0 loss against the hosts by scores of 13-25, 9-25 and 15-25.  The Mustangs would fall in the final match of the day on Saturday 3-0 against visiting NYU-Polytechnic by scores of 18-25, 9-25 and 8-25. 

Mount Ida slumps to an overall record of 1-12 dropping their seventh in a row holding at 0-4 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. 

In match one against the Engineers, The Mustangs were led by junior hitter Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) with a team-high seven kills on 34 attempts along with six digs and two solo blocks.  Senior hitter Franklin McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) chipped in three kills and six assists with junior setter Ricky Oliveira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) dished out seven assists with seven digs.

Match two saw six kills on 24 attempts with two four errors by Hastings also adding two solo blocks.  Sophomore's Nick Schibi (Torrington, CT/O. Wolcott Regional), Nick Melillo (North Haven, CT/North Haven), Ryan Furlow (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) and Kenny Jean (Dorchester, MA/Brighton) all added one kill each.

The Mustangs will return to action this Thursday traveling to hosting non-league Daniel Webster Ciollege with match time slated for 7:00 p.m.
