MUSTANGS FALL AT BARD, HASTINGS MAKES ALL-TOURNEY TEAM

February 24-25, 2012 (Bard College, New York) - Over this past weekend, the Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped all three matches traveling to the Bard College Tournament in New York Friday and Saturday evening. The Mustangs, who were led by junior hitter Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) who was selected to the Bard All-Tournament team, fall to an overall record of 1-8 and remain at 0-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Mount Ida dropped match one on Friday slumping 3-0 by scores of 14-25, 18-25 and 22-25 against visiting New York University-Polytechnic. Hastings led the Mustangs will seven kills on 25 attempts along with two digs. Sophomore hitter Nick Schibi (Torrington, CT/O. Wolcott Regional) added six kills on 13 attempts also recording six digs. Junior setter Ricky Oliveira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) dished out 16 assists respectively.

In the final match of the evening Friday, Mount Ida fell to tournament host Bard College, 3-0, by scores of 11-25, 12-25 and 19-25. Hastings again recorded seven kills on 23 attempts with only three errors and a solo block while senior hitter Franklin McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) notched five kills and three digs. Oliveira tallied 14 assists and three digs as well.

To close out the weekend Saturday afternoon, the Mustangs dropped a 3-1 loss to visiting SUNY-IT by scores of 11-25, 27-25, 21-25 and 21-25 in a closely contested match. Hastings was impressive adding 20 kills on 46 attempts also adding four service aces and three block assists. Schibi added six kills on 11 attempts with only one error along with eight digs. Oliveira dished out 28 assists while McCaffrey recorded five kills on 18 attempts.

The Mustangs will host GNAC foe and neighboring rival Lasell College Tuesday evening with match time slated for 7:00 p.m.
