Saturday, February 18, 2012 (Providence, Rhode Island) - The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team fell in their fifth consecutive match to start the season to hosting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Johnson & Wales University downed 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-22 Saturday afternoon in Providence, Rhode Island.
This is the third straight GNAC bid that the Mustangs have dropped falling to an overall record of 0-5, 0-3 in conference action with their next contest this coming Wednesday against visiting non-league Lesley University with game time slated for 7:00 p.m.
Junior Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) led the way for Mount Ida with 11 kills and six digs while Ricky Olivera (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) had set 18 assists in the setback for the Mustangs.
Sophomore Chris Espinola (Derry, NH) paced Johnson & Wales with nine kills while freshman J.J. Bessette (Coventry, RI) had 18 set assists in the victory for the Wildcats.
