HASTINGS NOTCHES 16 KILLS, MEN'S V-BALL FALLS 3-0

Wednesday, February 16, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped their fourth straight loss to start the 2012 season and their second consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bid to Wentworth Institute of Technology Wednesday evening in Newton, Massachusetts falling 3-0 by scores of 27-29, 10-25 and 14-25. 

The Mustangs played strong throughout game one (27-29) falling just short of their first set victory of the season.  The next two games (10-25, 14-25) were riddled with a plethora of errors making it tough to keep things close eventually falling 3-0.   

Mount Ida is still searching for the first win of 2012 slumping to an overall record of 0-4, 0-2 in league action while the visitors capture their second straight win over the Mustangs improving to 6-4 for the year, 2-2 in GNAC play.

The hosts were led offensively by junior outside hitter Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) with 16 kills also adding three solo blocks and one block assist.  Hastings also recorded the team's lone ace while senior setter Franklin McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) dished out 22 assists.

Wentworth saw a team-high eight kills from sophomore hitter Ross Burdett (Needham, MA/Needham) while sophomore middle blocker Brian Mann (East Freetown, MA/Apponequet) chipped in seven kills.  Sophomore OPP Mike Buonincontra (Shelton, CT/Shelton) tallied a game-high three service aces with junior setter Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) notching 19 assists.

The Mustangs will head to Providence, Rhode Island this coming Saturday for another league bid against hosting Johnson & Wales University with match time slated for 1:00 p.m.
