MEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT BOTH ENDS OF TRI-MATCH SATURDAY

Saturday, February 4, 2012 (Chicopee, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped both end of a non-conference tri-match at Elms College Saturday afternoon in Chicopee, Massachusetts to start the 2012 season.

The Mustangs fell in both matches by scores of 3-0 opening match with a loss to the hosting Blazers 6-25, 11-25, and 23-25. Mount Ida followed with a lost to the visiting Nighthawks in the final match falling 11-25, 20-25, and 19-25.

First year head coach Craig Martin and the Mustangs fall to an overall record of 0-2 with their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) bid coming against hosting Wentworth Institute of Technology Thursday evening Boston, Massachusetts starting at 7:00 p.m.

In the opening loss against hosting Elms College, the Mustangs were led by junior hitter Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) adding 10 kills on 20 attempts with five errors. Senior hitter McCoy Arnoux (Brockton, MA/Brockton) chipped in three kills on 16 attempts along with two service aces. Sophomore Nick Schibi (Torrington, CT/O. Wolcott Regional) tallied two kills and six digs respectively.

Against the Nighthawks in the final match of the day, Hastings again led the Mustangs offensively with a game high 13 kills on 28 attempts along with two solo blocks. Senior setter Franklin McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) dished out 22 assists along with two service aces. Arnoux added six kills and three digs while sophomore Nick Melillo (North Haven, CT/North Haven) added five kills on seven attempts with no errors.
