The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team traveled to non-conference Regis College (MA) this past Saturday for their second tri-match of the season going 1-1 in non-conference action capturing a 3-1 victory over the Pride by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 21-25, and 25-17. The Mustangs went on to lose 3-1 to visiting non-conference Newbury College falling by scores of 17-25, 25-18, 25-20, and 25-19. Mount Ida falls to an overall record of 3-9 and remain at 1-6 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings.
In match one versus Regis; the Mustangs were led by sophomore hitter Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) with 11 kills on 22 attempts and a team leading 13 digs. Senior hitter Thomas Belton (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) chipped in nine kills on 18 attempts with only four errors while junior McCoy Arnoux (Brockton, MA/Brockton) was also outstanding with eight kills on 10 attempts with only one error. Senior setter Shane Wilson (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) dished out 31 assists as well as five kills on 16 attempts.
In match two in a 3-1 loss against the Nighthawks, the Mustangs were this time led by Belton with 15 kills on 30 attempts with only two errors good for a .433 hitting percentage. Belton also contributed two solo blocks and four digs. Hastings wasn't far behind with 11 kills on 25 attempts along with a team leading four solo blocks and six digs. Wilson added 34 assists and five digs while junior Franklin McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) added seven kills and four digs.
The Mustangs will host visiting conference powerhouse Emmanuel College this coming Wednesday night starting at 7:00 p.m.
