MEN'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS THIRD STRAIGHT GNAC BID 3-0

The Mount Ida College men's volleyball team dropped their third consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest since starting the season this time to the hands of nationally ranked Rivier College falling 3-0 Wednesday night by scores of 25-22, 25-16, and 25-19.  The Mustangs remain winless for the season at 0-3 and drop to 0-3 in the GNAC while the Raiders remain perfect in league play at 2-0 standing at 8-1 overall.

Mount Ida was led offensively by senior Thomas Belton (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) with eight kills also adding one service ace.  Sophomore Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) chipped in seven kills, nine digs, and five solo blocks while junior Franklin McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) notched three kills.  Sophomore libero Ricky Oliveira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) tallied 10 digs.  Senior captain Shane Wilson (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) dished out 24 assists.

The Raiders saw outstanding individual performances from freshman Sam Kazlas (Allentown, PA/William Allen) adding 10 kills while freshman Cameron Walker (Costa Mesa, CA/Bishop Mora Salesian) dished out 24 assists tallying seven digs as well.

The Mustangs will travel to non-conference Elms College for a tri-match with the Blazers and visiting Newbury College Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m.
