NEWTON, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College men's soccer team fell to the Cougars of Clark University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-0 in a feisty non-conference affair on the confines of Alumni Field.
With the Mustangs second consecutive loss, they now stand at 2-2 on the year while Clark improves to 3-0.
The visitors got on the board early in the opening minutes of play at the 7:30 mark when Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.) received a through ball from teammate Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.) from the left side of the box finding Munroe's foot while beating Mustang keeper Riley Ford (Guilderland, N.Y.).
Cougar senior TJ Zirkman (Freehold, N.J.) earned a penalty kick in the 32nd minute before firing the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal as Ford guessed left, giving Clark the 2-0 advantage.
The Mustang offensive attack didn't muster much offense in the first half while only managing three shots in the opening stanza, while seeing themselves down 2-0 at the break.
Much like the first half, Clark controlled the pace of play and possession while padding on eleven more shots and adding one more goal off the foot of Monroe once again when he lifted a shot from forty yards out and into the back of the net when he caught Ford hanging off his line.
Clark outshot the Mustangs twenty three to nine while holding the slight advantage in corner kicks, three to two. Ford made six saves in the contest while Cougar keepers Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) and Alistair Richardson (Tolland, Conn.) combined to make six saves.
The Mustangs will be back in action in just two days time when they travel to Wheelock College on Monday evening with kickoff set for 7:00 PM. Clark is back in action in less than 24 hours when they hit the road to take on Western New England University with that game set to begin at 3:30 PM.
