Mustangs Topped by Lasers in GNAC Fixture

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College men's soccer team was edged by the Lasers of Lasell College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. With the victory, Lasell improves to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play. With the setback, the Mustangs drop to 6-7-1 and 2-4-1 in league play.

Nick Liquori (Westfield, Mass.) scored two goals for Lasell, while teammates Yaw Bediako (Silver Spring, Md.) and Conor Fitzgerald (Marshfield, Mass.) each tallied markers for the Lasers and Jon Sutton (Orange, Conn.) tallied a pair of assists in the victory for the Lasers. Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) made one save in the win for Lasell, and Alex Serrazina (Ludlow, Mass.) stopped a pair of shots in relief for Lasell.

Cody Burdick (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and Carlos Martinez (Chelsea, Mass.) each scored for the Mustangs while Nick Rivas-Vasquez (Hamden, Conn.) and Robert McClafferty (Abington, Mass.) added assists in the contest, while freshmen net minder Riley Ford (Guilderland, N.Y.) took the loss in goal for Mount Ida.

Liquori got Lasell on the board in the 8th minute when his strike from the right side of the 18-yard box found the top left corner of the net over Ford's outstretched hands to make it 1-0. Lasell made it 2-0 less than two minutes later when service from Sutton found Liquori on the back post who headed it home for his second goal of the match. Bediako scored in the 36th minute for the hosts when he fired a loose ball in the box past Ford to make it 3-0. Sutton then setup Fitzgerald with a neatly placed through ball that Fitzgerald flicked past a closing Ford and then finished into the empty net, sending Lasell into the half with a 4-0 advantage.

The Mustangs would continue to battle back, pulling back a goal in the 75th minute when Burdick finished a service from Rivas-Vazquez past Serrazina and the visitors made it a 4-2 score in the 87th minute when Serrazina was unable to corral a driven ball into the box off the foot of McClafferty in which Martinez tapped home the rebound. The Mustangs continued to press, but were unable to get any closer, falling 4-2.

Lasell will travel to Suffolk on Tuesday October 22nd when they kick-off against the Rams at 8:00 p.m. Mount Ida will return home on Wednesday evening when they host the Monks of Saint Joseph's (ME) with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
