Saturday, October 28, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College men's soccer team put a close to the 2012 season under the direction of third year Head Coach Joseph Campbell with a 1-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) post-season opening round loss to hosting neighboring rival Lasell College Saturday afternoon by a score of 1-0 in Newton, Massachusetts. The Mustangs finish the season at 6-11-1 overall.
The match was a back and forth affair, and remained scoreless until the 42nd minute when junior co-captain Nery Guerra (Guatemala City, Guatemala) broke the scoreless deadlock and put Lasell on top 1-0 heading into the intermission.
Both teams saw quality goalkeeping limit the few quality scoring chances for either side. Lasell's Miguel Colmenares made a pair of saves in each half to help his side remain unscathed. Matt Pils was equally impressive, making four saves in the second half to keep his team within striking distance.
Lasell held a slight 14-10 edge in shots and corner kicks at 5-3.
Lasell will move on to take on Norwich University on Tuesday afternoon in the GNAC Semifinals, the Cadets needed penalties to get the leg up on Johnson and Wales, and earn the right to face the top-seeded Lasers.
