The Mount Ida College men's soccer team captured their third Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over hosting Rivier College last Wednesday evening in Nashua, New Hampshire by a score of 2-0. The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 5-5-1 with a league slate of 3-3 holding a seventh place standing in the conference with a play-off spot in their grasp with six games left on the schedule.
The Mustangs saw goals from sophomore defender Peter Sliva (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) early in the first half (15th minute) on a feed from freshman midfielder Carlos Martinez (Chelsea, MA/Chelsea) for the 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore midfielder Ricky Oliveira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) netted his first score of the year on a dish from senior Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak) in the beginning of the second half with no answer from the Raiders. Neither team could convert for the rest of the contest awarding the Mustangs the 2-0 GNAC victory.
Mount Ida net minder Matt Pils (Monroe, CT/Masuk) notched two saves through all 90 minutes of play for the shutout.
