MEN'S SOCCER FALLS ON PENALTY KICK IN 75TH MINUTE

Thursday, October 14, 2010 (Newton, Massachusetts) – In the 75th minute of play, Mount Ida College junior goalkeeper Steven Enright (South Kingston, RI/Prout) came off his line to smother a free ball in the middle of the net committing a foul in the box.  The middle referee immediately signaled to the penalty circle that Elms College senior Chris Silva (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee) converted into the left corner for the 1-0 lead and eventually a non-conference win over the Mustangs on a brisk Thursday afternoon.

The Mustangs, who were coming off their first win of 2010, fall to 1-12-0 and remain at 1-5-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).  The Blazers, who came to Newton winless, capture their first victory of the season   improving to 1-10-2 and remain at 0-3-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

The Mustangs outshot the visitors 23-15 firing a game high 14 shots in the second half.  Mount Ida keeper Enright was outstanding again making six saves while Blazers netminder junior Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, MA/St. Mary) made eight saves in the shutout.

The Mustangs are back to work this coming Saturday hosting GNAC foe Emmanuel College in a twin bill with the women's team starting at 12:00 noon.
