The Mount Ida College men's soccer team continues their slide dropping game 10 in a row with a 2-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss to visiting Emerson College Saturday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts. The Mustangs fall to a 0-10-0 overall record and 0-4-0 in GNAC play while the Lions improve to 5-4-0 in 2010 and 3-1 in the conference.
For the second time in the two games, the Mustangs gave a quick goal in the fourth minute of the contest on a freshman Jonny Havers (Williamsport, MA/Loyalsock TWP) shot from senior Mike Giles (Wakefield, RI/South Kingstown) giving the visitors the 1-0 lead.
Giles redirected a bounding ball toward the right post that would have trickled in, but Havers caught up to it at the line and blasted it in the net for the advantage.
The Mustangs only were able to get off seven total shots on net, four in the first half, to the Lions high powered offense firing 23 on net for the game, 13 in the first half.
Mount Ida never had a legitimate scoring opportunity making it hard to keep up with the visitors. The Lions eventually scored their final goal in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick that was awarded after a hard slide tackle in the box by Mustang sophomore sweeper Spencer Hasting (Orlando, FL/Timber Creak).
Lions senior midfielder Eric Dabdoub (Monterrey, Mexico/American) caught the hosts' goalkeeper cheating right and put it past him in the middle of the net for the 2-0 lead and ultimately the GNAC win.
Mustang goalkeeper junior Steven Enright (South Kingston, RI/South Kingston) played well but saw no help from his teammates denying seven shots while Lion keeper sophomore Aaron Drescher (Latham, MY/Christian Brothers Academy) stopped three shots.
The Mustangs will travel to GNAC foe Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont a week from today for their next match starting at 2:30 p.m.
