MUSTANGS CLAWED BY EAGLES 4-1 IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 (Newton, Massachusetts) - On a saturated rain soaked field, the Mount Ida College men's soccer team dropped their ninth consecutive loss of 2010 to visiting Daniel Webster College in non-conference play falling 4-1 Tuesday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs drop to 0-9-0 and remain at 0-3-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings while the Eagles improve to an even .500 at 3-3-1.

The visitors struck in the opening minute of the contest on a through ball from the right side of the box from Eagle junior Tim Amberman (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) to a wide open Nick Klesh (Bedford, NH/Manchester West) who proceeded to fire a ball into the right corner for an immediate and eye opening lead up 1-0.

The first half did not see much more action due to serious rain and tough terrain with the Eagles taking their 1-0 advantage into the half.

Mount Ida would capitalize in the 54th minute of play on senior Justin Murphy's (Holbrook, MA/Blue Hills Regional) second goal of the season off a feed from freshman Phil Basile (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) tying the score at 1-1 apiece.

The rain continued to pick up becoming steadier in the ladder part of the second half making the field even tougher to play on.  The visitors went on to score the next three goals to seal the 4-1 win.  Eagle freshman Ben Anthony (Greenfield, NH/Con-Val) collected a deflected ball that skipped into his possession off the wet grass good for a one-on-one with the goaltender.  Anthony poked in the unassisted score for the 2-1 advantage in the 73rd minute of play.

Their next goal came off a well placed corner kick from Eagle senior Michael Lohr (Chepachet, RI/Ponaganset) to the head of junior Spencer Bernard (Windsor Locks, CT/Windsor) popping it into the right corner going up 3-1 with up three minutes to go.

Bernard added his second and final goal of the contest on another deflected ball that gave him a one-on-one with the goaltender firing a shot into the right corner for the unassisted score and a 4-1 non-conference victory.

Mount Ida keeper, junior Steven Enright (South Kingston, RI/South Kingston) played well in such terrible weather making seven total saves while Eagle junior goalkeeper Joe Keene (Bristol, NH/Newfound) denied three Mustang shots.

The Mount Ida College men's soccer team will host visiting Emerson College this coming Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. for their fourth GNAC match-up of the season.
