MEN'S SOCCER STAYS PERFECT IN GNAC STANDINGS

The Mount Ida College men's soccer team moves into a first place tie with Lasell College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings after beating Johnson and Wales University 2-1 this past Saturday at Pierce Field.  The Mustangs are now 3-2-2 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in the conference; the Wildcats drop another loss remaining 0-7 on the year, 0-2 in the GNAC.

Johnson & Wales got on the board first when senior Jeremiah Schenzel (Carson City, NV) tallied an unassisted goal at the 21:44 mark.  Mount Ida responded at 31:19 as junior Taiki Otsuka (Kanagawa-Ken, Japan/Soboudai) converted a penalty kick after a foul in the box to knot the game at 1-1.

The two teams battled throughout the majority of the second half before sophomore Hermes Lima (Boston, MA/West Roxbury) fired in a pass from freshman Ty Taylor (South Africa/Krysersdorp) to give Mount Ida the 2-1 lead at the 86:39 mark.  The Mustangs would then hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Junior Chris Vasquez (Nashua, N.H.) had five saves in goal for Johnson & Wales while senior Kevin DosSantos (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland/C.C.R.I.) picked up the win in net for Mount Ida.

The Mustangs are 2-1 in their past three games and head into non-conference action this coming Wednesday at Becker College starting at 4:00 p.m.
