The Mount Ida College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw at the University of New England this Wednesday evening in non-conference men's soccer action.
The Mustangs had taken a 1-0 lead late in the first half when the Nor'easters had trouble clearing a Mount Ida corner kick. Sophomore Simon Shallop (Guinea, West Africa/ International School of Conakry) pushed home a low shot to the left side that nearly proved to be the game-winner.
With the Nor'easters trailing and less than three minutes to play in regulation, UNE sophomore Elia Del Molino (Glendale, Mass.) was credited with his first goal of the season on a scramble in front of the Mount Ida goal mouth after the Mustangs failed to clear a UNE corner kick.
Neither team had a strong scoring chance in the two 10-minute extra sessions. Mount Ida outshot UNE, 3-1, in overtime but trailed 20-11 for in that category for the contest.
Senior Kevin DosSantos (Cumberland, Rhode Island/Cumberland) had eight saves for the Mustangs, while junior Derek Poulin (Scarborough, Maine) turned away nine for UNE.
Both teams return to action Saturday with Mount Ida travels to Johnson & Wales University for a 3:00 p.m. start.
