The Mount Ida College men's soccer team adds another win to their streak; they have now won three in a row and haven't lost in the past seven contests. The Mustangs hosted non-conference and neighboring foe Lesley University this Sunday during homecoming weekend winning 1-0. Mount Ida improves to 6-2-3 overall and remain perfect at 3-0-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) while the Lynx drop to 4-7-1, 2-0-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
The only goal scored in this one came on a beautiful cross off a corner kick by junior Billy Beauzile (Brooklyn, NY/Samuel J. Tilden) that was deflected at the near post by senior captain Brandan Chuba (Wallingford, CT/Wallingford) for his first score of the season. This gave the Mustangs the outright 1-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining in the first half. That's was all the scoring on the afternoon for either squad, the game was dominated by the hosts but they could not convert another goal.
Both squads saw solid performances from each goaltender with the only blemish on the Lesley side. Mustang keeper senior Kevin DosSantos (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland/C.C.R.I) denied one ball on only three shots from the Lynx. Visiting goalie sophomore Zack Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) had a much busier day between the posts stopping nine shots on 24 attempts.
The Mustangs will stay home and host GNAC opponent Suffolk University this coming Wednesday starting at 3:30 p.m.
