The Mount Ida College Men’s Soccer Team faced off against
the Nor’easters from the University of New England today on a
chilly Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. start.
UNE got on the board first on a botched pass by the Mustangs to
give Ryan Ogiela (Reading, CT/Joel Barlow) an open lane to feed New
England striker Shirwac Hussain – Ali (Auburn, ME/Lewiston)
the open net for the first goal of the game at the 22:02 mark in
the first half.
MIC answered right back with a goal of their own off a corner kick
by junior Brandon Chuba (Wallingford, CT/Mark T.
Sheehan) to the head of midfielder Matt
Gill (Winfield, KS/Garden City C.C.) placing it in
the upper left hand corner to tie the game at 1-1 with 16:00 left
in the first stanza. The game would go into the half tied at
one’s.
The second half was back and forth the whole way through until the
75th minute when Nor’easter’s defender Brandon Gormley
(Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) took a bad bounce off the hand in the
box giving the Mustangs a penalty kick. Adam Jensen (Boston,
MA/Northeastern University/Worcester Academy) was the lucky
candidate for honors on the kick rocketing it in the bottom right
hand corner for the lead and the win.
MIC goaltender Kevin DosSantos (Cumberland,
RI/C.C.R.I.) denied six shot while UNE keeper Derek
Poulin (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) saved two.
The Mustangs will travel to Lesley University on Thursday,
September 20, 2007 for some old memories of the North Atlantic
Conference (NAC) starting at 7:30 p.m. under the lights.
