Adam Jensen (Boston, MA/Worcester
Acad./Northeastern) broke a scoreless tie converting
a Jean Demorcy (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris)
cross pass 34 seconds into the second half and Brian
Leighton (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area) made four saves
to record the shutout leading Mount Ida to a tight, 1-0 victory
over host Daniel Webster Saturday in the GNAC men's soccer opener
for both clubs.
Jensen directed Demorcy's pass from 10 yards out, clipping the far
left post just past Eagle goalkeeper Craig Van Tuyl (Buffalo,N.Y.)
allowing the Mustangs to improve to 3-1-1 overall (1-0 GNAC). The
Eagles dropped to 0-4-1 (0-1 GNAC).
Van Tuyl took the tough luck loss, making eight saves.
The Mustangs finished with an 8-4 shots on goal advantage.
Both teams are back in action Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. DWC travels to
Southern Vermont, while Mount Ida hosts the University of New
England.
