A 12th minute full volley sent into the left upper side of goal
by Sr./Fwd. Co-captain Brad Leonard (Daleville, VA) was not enough
as the Crusaders legs could not carry them far or quickly enough
past a strong rushing Mustang team.
While the Mustangs pressed and were dangerous from the opening
whistle, the Crusaders bent but did not break for 30 minutes of the
1st half. However the Mustangs broke through in the 34th minute as
Hermes Lima went in on the keeper with a 1 v 1 and slotted the ball
in to tie the game up at 1-1.
Junior midfielder Matt Gill (Winfield, KS/Garden
City C.C.) was a constant threat in the air
when senior defensman Greg Hagan (Weymouth,
MA/Weymouth/Dean College) would take his long
throw-in and put the ball in front of goal.
Mustangs Hermes Lima eventually broke throw with a 1 v 1 on goal
and finished to near post to tie the score up before half time
arrived. The Crusaders could not get out of the pressure and get
possession of the game in the second half either as two more goals
were scored to ensure the win. Junior striker Adam
Jensen (Boston, MA/Worcester Acad./Northeastern)
and sophomore midfielder Taiki Otsuka
(Kanagawa-ken, Japan) each had goals. The Mustangs
held the advantage in shots 22-6 and corners 9-1.
The Mustangs will travel to Curry College on Tuesday, September 4th
for a 3:30 pm start.
