Freshman Maicon Januario (Lowell, Mass.) netted the winner to
propel the Rivier College men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory
over non-conference foe Mount Ida College this afternoon at the
Mount Ida Athletic Stadium.
With the victory, the Raiders improved their record to 2-2-1. The
Mustangs dropped to 5-3-0 on the year.
Januario tallied the contest’s only goal off a feed from
sophomore Michael Vekakis (Colchester, Conn.) in the 27th
minute.
Rivier senior goalkeeper Victor Joubert (Haverhill, Mass.) turned
away eight shots en route to earning the victory. Sophomore
netminder Brian Leighton (Turner, Maine/Leavitt
Area) made nine saves in a losing effort for the
Mustangs.
Mount Ida (5-3-0, 1-0-0 NAC) will travel to Maine this weekend for
a pair of matches against North Atlantic Conference opponents. The
Mustangs will visit the University of Maine Farmington on Saturday
at 1:00 p.m. and Thomas College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Rivier
(2-2-1, 0-2-0 GNAC) wraps up a four-match roadtrip on Thursday,
when it takes on St. Joseph’s College of Maine at 3:30 p.m.
