The Mount Ida College men’s soccer team opened its 2006
North Atlantic Conference slate with a 1-0 shutout of Lesley
University this afternoon at the Mount Ida Athletic Stadium.
It was the Mustangs second straight win and fifth overall. All five
Mount Ida victories have come by way of the shutout, and four of
them have been by a score of 1-0.
Junior Greg Hagan (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth/Dean
Coll.) scored from point blank range after he scooped
up a feed from senior Josh Belongie (Ashway,
R.I./Chariho Regional) in the 21st minute of play.
His first goal in a Mount Ida uniform proved to be the
match-winner, as neither squad found the net over the match’s
final 69:18.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Leighton (Turner,
Maine/Leavitt Area) made six saves en route to his
fifth shutout of the season and seventh of his career. Lesley
freshman netminder Imad Elkatrib (North Quincy, Mass.) took the
loss despite stopping 11 shots.
Mount Ida (5-2-0, 1-0-0 NAC) wraps up a three match homestand
versus Rivier College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Lesley (3-2-0, 2-2-0
NAC) takes the pitch again on Wednesday, when it travels to Becker
College for a NAC tilt beginning at 4:00 p.m.
