Senior Josh Belongie (Ashway, R.I./Chariho
Regional) registered a pair of goals to propel the
Mount Ida College men’s soccer team to a 3-0 triumph over
Daniel Webster College this afternoon in non-conference action at
the Mount Ida Athletic Stadium.
The Mustangs have won four of their last five matches, all by way
of the shutout.
After a scoreless first half, Mount Ida erupted for three goals in
the second frame. Belongie scored what proved to be his second
match-winner of the season off a feed from sophomore
Brandon Chuba (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T.
Sheehan) just 2:04 into the second period to get
things going.
Sophomore Chris Meuer (Warminster, Pa./William
Tennent) extended the Mustangs lead to 2-0 in the
55th minute, and Belongie found the net again in the 86th minute to
ice things. SeniorJose Andrade (Quito Ecuador/Colegio
Americano de Quito) and sophomore Jean
Demorcy (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) were credited with
assists on the plays.
Sophomore goalkeeperBrian Leighton (Turner,
Maine/Leavitt Area) made six saves en route to his
fourth shutout of the season and sixth of his career. Daniel
Webster netminder Craig Van Tuyl (Buffalo, N.Y./Iroquis) took the
loss despite stopping nine shots.
Mount Ida (4-2, 0-0 NAC) kicks off its North Atlantic Conference
slate at home versus Lesley University on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Daniel Webster (0-6, 0-2 GNAC) will also be in action on Saturday,
as it visits Emmanuel College for a Great Northeast Athletic
Conference clash beginning at 6:00 p.m.
